Supporting families seeking their highest potential

Cynthia provided a warm and loving, yet structured environment, where our daughter truly thrived. Under her instruction, our daughter grew, not only in knowledge, but in a love for learning.

The Students I Serve

Does your child display one or more of the following?

  • need for IEP or 504 and/or have a diagnosis of dyslexia or ADHD
  • difficulty with age-appropriate attentiveness
  • a defeated attitude regarding academic achievement
  • frustration with fluent reading, which may include dyslexia
  • challenges with handwriting and/or spelling
  • struggles to express thoughts verbally or in writing
  • difficulty with number sense, math, and math procedures
  • a significant gap between her/his potential and achievement

What We Accomplish

  • teach your student how to think, not just what to think

  • draw upon research that indicates cognition can be changed through intensive, focused work

  • enable student to become independent learner through strategies used in therapy

  • develop and strengthen the interdependent skills of language and thinking

  • use effective questioning and teach student to reflect upon thinking processes

  • strengthen the underlying causes of the learning difficulties of cognition, perception, academics, and emotion, rather than simply treating the symptoms

  • target the intervention just above the student’s current level of functioning and mediate learning to foster growth

Cynthia, as a mentor/advisor, had a profoundly positive impact on my daughter as well as her peers, during high school years. I also had the privilege of teaching on the same faculty with Cynthia and can unequivocally recommend her as a teacher, tutor, and coach.

How We Work Together

*Due to COVID 19, virtual Educational Therapy is available.

All engagements begin with a free 30 minute consultation to discuss what is best for your family.

I offer initial screen tests including Woodcock Johnson assessments

A typical learning therapy engagement is 60 sessions over the course of the school year, typically twice each week. Therapy is always tailored for your child and your family's needs.

I am also available to tutor, using proven therapy techniques, for humanities and writing.

My Training & Methods

For over 27 years I have worked in education, 19 of which have been in the field of educational therapy, custom tailoring tutoring and therapy solutions that address the unique need of each child. Through classroom instruction and therapy for children grades K-12, I have encouraged students to achieve and have equipped them to succeed - at school and at life.

I have Master's level training in teaching techniques for students with learning disabilities, am a PCET (Professionally Certified Educational Therapist), and apply the following methods:

Orton-Gillingham Reading System
This instructional approach is for children who have difficulty with reading, spelling, and writing of the sort associated with dyslexia. (More information.)

Integrated Listening System: Safe and Sound Training

The goal of this system is brain/body integration, beginning with sensory integration and extending through more complex cognitive functions, including language, self-expression, and social skills. (More information)

National Institute for Learning Development
NILD educational therapy is a true therapy that aims the intervention just above the student’s current level of functioning and raises expectations for performance, which creates the framework to foster that growth. NILD therapy students become competent, confident learners. They gain mastery over their cognitive vulnerabilities and hone their cognitive strengths for success in the classroom and in life. (More information.)

The Charlotte Mason Method
The Charlotte Mason method is based on Charlotte's firm belief that the child is a person and we must educate that whole person, not just his or her mind. So a Charlotte Mason education is three-pronged: in her words, “Education is an Atmosphere, a Discipline, a Life.” (More information.)

Cynthia is an outstanding educator with a deep understanding of how children learn. We watched our son’s confidence in his abilities and in the classroom grow exponentially as a result of Cynthia’s patience and intuitive style. She has a unique ability to meet a student where he is and to create positive and encouraging ways to strengthen learning styles. The two years our son spent with her were invaluable and his increased confidence in the classroom and in himself was a direct result of his time with her.

Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or the same way.
